Diamonde Williamson of Blossom Sparks “Honest Dialogues” for Professional Women of Color

Black women in various positions across the media industry– from actresses to TV producers, journalists and digital media strategists– met in downtown Atlanta for a roundtable discussion on their experiences in their fields. These women were brought together by Blossom, a digital streaming platform with programs for and by women of color, for the first event in a series of intentional conversations called “Honest Dialogues.”

Founder and CEO Diamonde Williamson led the discussion with a list of guided questions and prompts that motivated attendees to share their experiences with mentorship in the workplace, the impact of social media on personal achievement and career planning and the importance of prioritizing one’s health and wellness.
Major themes in the conversation included navigating one’s career in the digital age, labeled the “microwave mindset.” There was an increased emphasis on mental health and success considering the recent suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain.
“All the things we’re chasing may not be important in the end,” one attendee expressed. These sentiments were answered with tips on combating stress while living a more balanced life, as well as strategies on creating a healthier path to success: “Make it a point to give yourself peace of mind.”
For women of color, the group concluded, one of those strategies includes investing in one’s self and relationships. This means mentoring younger women of color, nurturing relationships and taking the time to practice excellence.
“Be so good they can’t deny you.”
The next Honest Dialogues event will be for “women founders including perspectives by women who have businesses and startups,” is set to take place Thursday, June 28 in Atlanta, Georgia (there are limited seats, secure yours here!)
