Lauren Simmons, 23, currently holds a spot as the only female full-time stockbroker for the New York Stock exchange. She is also the youngest and only the second African American woman to ever serve in this position.

Simmons graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2016 with a degree in genetics and has held previous positions at Woodstock Clinical Treatment, Saks, and Nordstrom before becoming a stockbroker for Rosenblatt Securities.

“It has been a long and exciting journey for me and I am very grateful for the encouraging messages I have been getting,” she said via her LinkedIn page. “It is inspiring to see many people look up to me to see how my story has helped other [people] into their careers, as well as more females on the floor with the New York Stock Exchange.”

When asked if Simmons will be a rare case of being a woman in the infamously male-dominated floor, Richard Rosenblatt, Founder and CEO of Rosenblatt Securities, simply said: “She won’t be the last.”

Simmons hopes her career will inspire other women to take on roles and excel in male-dominated industries.

“Just be confident in yourself and in your talents & gifts. We are capable to be in whatever field we want to be in and have the work ethic to be equally compared with males in the work field.”
