Barbara Gaba was recently appointed as the first African American and first woman president of Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey. She was officially inaugurated on Friday, October 27 in a ceremony that also commemorated the end of the College’s 50th-year celebration.

Prior to her appointment, Gaba served as the Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Union County College. There she was the chief academic officer and implemented strategies to advance the university, specifically at its Elizabeth, NJ campus.

As President of Atlantic Cape, she will oversee all three of the College’s campuses in Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and Cape May County. Some of her goals as president include strengthening relationships between Atlantic Cape and four-year universities and business to increase the number of graduates who continue their pursuit of higher education and ensure a seamless transition into the workforce.

In a speech addressing the Atlantic Cape community, Gaba said,

“We have many success stories to tell. Truly Atlantic Cape makes an impact on the lives of our students and we will continue to do this work with zeal and passion as we transform the community, one student at a time.”
