While you’re on the journey to accomplish life-changing goals, the people you keep around you can make the biggest difference in how far you go. Many goal-diggers take this to another level and have a circle of accountability partners around them.

What's an accountability partner?

Your accountability partner should be someone who keeps you on track. They are the ones who not only make sure you get up and go to the gym every other day like you promised, but they’re most likely going to be right there with you to push you even further. The concept of an accountability partner is fairly new to me, so I took to Twitter to ask my followers about their experience with their accountability partners (check out the thread here). When asked if they had an accountability partner, 56 percent (of 36 votes) said that they did. Out of 20 voters, 70 percent said they spoke with their accountability partner(s) every day; and out of 12 voters, 75 percent voted that their accountability partners were “extremely helpful with keeping them on track with their goals.

The biggest question I had about accountability partners was how exactly do you nd one? Fortunately, thanks to Howard University sophomores Deni Dedmon (@writtenbydeni), a Speech Pathology major, and Rebecca Johnson (@the_rebeccaj), a Journalism major, I learned that accountability partners can definitely be people you’re already close with.

Similarly, Deni shared that her accountability partners are:

As you can see, there are definitely benefits of having an accountability partner. Don’t think that you can take on the journey towards any goal totally by yourself, if you look closely enough around you, you’ll be sure to find someone who would love to help you accomplish your dreams and vice versa. Remember—“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
